Dear Neighbors,

On behalf of the North Washington Neighbors Incorporated, the Takoma D.C. Neighborhood Association, the Shepherd Park Citizens Association, the Brightwood Citizenís Association, and Concerned Neighbors Inc., we wish to invite you to a political forum for candidates for the vacant at-large D.C. City Council seat for which the special election is being held April 23, 2013.

Our forum will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2012, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Takoma Park Baptist Church at Aspen Street and Piney Branch Road, N.W. Joe Hairston, a longtime member of Neighbors Incorporated and member of the church will serve as moderator. All eight candidates for the vacant at-large City Council seat will attend and they are: Anita Banks, Michael A. Brown, Matthew Frumin, Patrick Mara, Perry Redd, John F. Settles, II, Elissa Silverman, and Paul Zuckerberg.

The format will allow no more than two minutes apiece for opening statements with the bulk of the time allotted for taking written questions from the audience. Our volunteers will screen the questions to ensure that residentsí concerns are addressed in such areas as the cityís budget, crime and disorder, education and school reform, health, job training, and planning for future economic development. Of course, questions may arise about other important topics, such as the location of group homes, medical marijuana dispensaries and the future of the Walter Reed site. Candidates will be strictly limited to one minute apiece for their answers to questions. Candidates will have two minutes apiece for closing statements if time permits. Finally, there cannot be any distribution of political literature or campaigning on the premises of the Takoma Park Baptist Church, including the lawn; this would be restricted to public space only, such as the sidewalks.

Should you have any questions, please contact either Ms. Jackie Jones, President of the Takoma D.C. Neighborhood Association, or Shannon Cockett, President of Neighbors Inc., in writing at the return addresses above or by email to or
